Bio.

Sofia Palacios Pereda is a visual artist and documentary photographer based in Austin, Texas. Her discipline is rooted in humanitarian causes, focusing on human resilience and how history is constructed and remembered. The work becomes an exploration of displacement and identity, while examining the systems and power structures that shape how these experiences are recorded and remembered.

Her post-documentary project, Desarraigo (2025 - ongoing), explores and preserves the narratives of Venezuelan migrants who have fled due to political corruption and economic collapse. Palacios uses analog and alternative processes to physically engage with the medium, slowing down the act of making and lending a tangible, enduring quality to stories that might otherwise be forgotten.

With a dual-degree BFA candidate at St. Edward's University in Photography & Media Arts and Communication (PR/Advertising), her recent work has been recognized with the Dr. George E. Martin Presidential Scholarship Endowment for Experimental Learning to continue exploring and developing the project.
