Sofia Palacios Peeda is a visual artist and documentary photographer based in Austin, Texas. Her discipline explores themes of displacement, memory and evidence of one’s singular experience through analog practices.
Her post-documentary project, Desarraigo (2025 - 2026), explores narratives of Venezuelan migrants who have fled due to the country’s collapse, leading to a personal introspection of her own experience. Palacios uses analog and alternative processes to physically engage with the photographs, slowing down the act of making and allowing alchemy to be central to the outcome.
With a dual-degree BFA candidate at St. Edward's University in Photography & Media Arts and Communication (PR/Advertising), her recent work has been recognized with the Dr. George E. Martin Presidential Scholarship Endowment for Experimental Learning to continue exploring and developing the project.
